STAR Scholarship Foundation

This competitive scholarship program is open to all African American (black American of African descent) and black 9th, 10th and 11th graders in the Howard County Public School System who meet the minimum requirements and want scholarship money to pay for future college or vocational school costs. Scholarships are provided for both academic

and vocational schooling. All applicants who deserve a scholarship get one for the proper amount. The potential exists to win three STAR scholarships if you apply in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades.  Thus you may win up to $3,000 toward your education after high school by winning the STAR Scholarship for three consecutive years.  Numerous students have won multiple scholarships. The scholarship may be used for tuition, housing, books, or fees; and is paid directly to the college or vocational school. The scholarship is revoked if not applied for within 3½ years after graduation from high school.  STAR Scholarships are based on GPA, significant GPA improvement, course difficulty, essay quality, significant accomplishments, recommendations and an interview.

Students who apply must have their completed application returned to their counselor by April 26th.
